Location

The Festival Hub will be the Walker Art Center. Home to contemporary art and so much more since 1927, it provides great spaces for daytime talks, workshops and labs. In 2005 a major expansion designed by Herzog & de Meuron was completed, resulting in aesthetically and technologically sophisticated facility. Amenities include a restaurant, a cafe, and various relaxing outdoor spaces including a sculpture park, plus a pretty satisfying bookstore if you dig design, art & architecture. We’ll be here 9-5ish everyday during Eyeo.

Each evening keynotes and mixers will be held at different stunning venues around town. See below.

* There is free Wifi at the Walker. There is some Walker proper wifi, and with the help of our friends at Implex.net we brought in some more special Eyeo wifi. There will not be wifi at the evening events (at least not on purpose, and not worth counting on) – so leave your bulky computers at home in the evenings.

* We’ll supply coffee, beverages and snacks during Eyeo, but meals are not provided. We believe it’s good to get out and get some air, walk a little bit, and actually eat something you’ll enjoy. There’s 2 food options at the Walker, and you can also get to several nice food options with in a 10-15 minute walk. We made the lunch break long (90 minutes) so you can stretch your legs and your brain. We’ve listed our recommended eateries in the google map above.

* Turn that ringer off, and even the vibe setting, that makes noise too. It’s actually one of the most compelling/attention getting sounds these days. There was a study about it…really. Bzz bzz bzz.

Minneapolis isn’t that big a place, but our evening venues are a little bit spread out. If you like a leisurely 2+ mile walk, we say go for it. If not, here’s a few options to consider.

Eyeo Shuttles Shuttle vans will depart the Millennium Hotel each night bound for that night’s venue. Start times vary by day, so see the schedule for specific times. Return shuttles will run continuously from 11:00pm to 1am back to the Millennium hotel and the Double Tree hotel upon request. Just ask the driver. (* We don’t expect the van to get everyone to every venue every night. We know from experience that most of you will find your way there on your own – finding dinner along the way.)

Cabs Cabs are plentiful and in most cases will get you from any Eyeo location to another in about 10 minutes for about $10.

Ride a Bike Nice Ride Minnesota is a non-profit bicycle share program. Using a credit card at the pay stations located at each Nice Ride station you can get on your way asap . Simply take a bike when you need one, and return it to any station in the system when you arrive at your destination. It rocks.

Airport – Fly into the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP)

To/From Airport – The hotels don’t run shuttles. Weak. You can hop the Light Rail Line from the airport to downtown (@$2) and walk to most hotels. For the Millennium Hotel get off at the Nicollet station and transfer (free) to a #18 bus headed south (towards Bloomington). Or catch a cab near the light rail stations downtown. Or a cab it all the way from MSP to downtown, approximately 12 miles, with fares averaging $38-$49.

Hotels
We highly recommend booking your hotel as soon as possible. Several other big events are taking place in Minneapolis the same week as Eyeo and rooms are in high demand.

We’ve arranged block rates for Eyeo attendees at the two nearest hotels to the Walker Art Center. But just about any hotel downtown will be a good as any other in terms of proximity. Once you’re downtown just about everything is only a few minutes away by foot, bus, taxi or the groovy bike share system. We’ll also arrange shuttles for various destinations.
